“American companies and American workers can compete against anyone in the world if they are given a fair chance. With 95 percent of the world's consumers residing outside of America, we have economic battles going on around the globe. Just as a strong national defense has ensured American military superiority, the Eximbank allows our companies to have a level playing field, and allows our companies to have an opportunity to compete against workers and companies anywhere throughout the world. Right now the Government Accounting Office has said the most compelling reason for reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank is to level the international playing field for U.S. exporters, and to provide leverage, very much needed leverage, in trade policy negotiations to induce foreign governments to reduce and ultimately eliminate subsidies. Without the Bank, we do not have that opportunity, that leverage, and that strength, and our companies need that. My goal is to have throughout the world a playing field where decisions of purchasing are made on the basis of price and quality and product and service. But that is the world we live in today. We need a strong economic tool, the Eximbank, to guard against unfair foreign subsidies and to give our companies and our workers a fair chance.”
