“the most open, allegedly transparent Congress in the history of America has begun this session by throwing out a bill that may cost upwards of $100 billion over 10 years that was written in secret. This bill has never had a committee hearing, not allowed amendments. There are no amendments allowed on the floor of the House. No one would consider buying a house, buying a car without reading the contract; yet you're asking the American people to spend borrowed money, up to $100 billion of borrowed money--every dollar we spend from this day forward is borrowed money--asking us to spend up to $100 billion over 10 years and not knowing what's in the bill. This is a blind ``yes'' vote for all of you. We all support health insurance for children, but we must remember the $62 trillion of unfunded liability that our children and grandchildren are facing today. The money we spend today is going to be passed on to future generations, and it's essential that the public be given the right to read these bills. This bill was not even posted up on the Web site publicly until about 24 hours ago. What are you afraid of? Let the sunshine in and let the public read your legislation.”
