“To me, the goal is simply to restore law and order to our immigration system. It is important to our national security because we have to know who is coming into our country and why people are here in a post-9/11 world. It is important to public safety because we know the same broken borders that can allow people who are economic migrants to come across can also allow common criminals, drug traffickers, and even terrorists. And it is important to our prosperity in this Nation that we reestablish our heritage as a nation that believes in the rule of law. We simply cannot have people choosing to obey some laws and disobeying others. That is not adherence to the rule of law.”
