“Mr. President, yesterday the Congressional Budget Office reported--and it continues to be the buzz about town--the latest report known as the long-term outlook. Of course, we know from the news that its report on the Affordable Care Act is absolutely devastating. According to the Congressional Budget Office, ObamaCare will reduce full-time employment by 2 million workers in the year 2017 and 2.5 million by the year 2024. The reason for that is pretty clear. With the employer mandate and the additional cost associated with ObamaCare, many employers will simply put people from full-time work onto part- time work in order to avoid the employer mandate and those penalties and additional costs. We human beings are enormously sensitive to incentives--both positive and negative--and this is predictable, and it is tragic. The Congressional Budget Office says: The reduction will almost entirely be a reduction in labor force participation and in the number of hours worked. In other words, this was a piece of legislation that we were told would enormously benefit, not only individual Americans by getting them access to care, but the President said it would benefit the economy as a whole. The sad truth is it is hurting the economy and hurting the very people whom I presume the President wanted to help. I heard Representative Ryan on the news talk about this as a poverty trap.…”
