This morning I had a very good conversation with judge Merrick Garland, who President Biden has nominated for attorney general.

I think we were very close to resolving our differences in a way that was acceptable to the Department of Justice, but it’s clear that the president decided that was unacceptable.

I will always support securing our border, but local officials on both sides of the aisle & other stakeholders have shared with me concerns about potential impacts in areas where the terrain already acts as deterrence for illegal…
