On the recordDecember 5, 2012
I understand that the Senator from New York has objected, and of course here we go again making the perfect the enemy of the good and not moving forward on commonsense immigration reform in an area where there is a consensus. There are several problems with the Senator's proposal. One is that it has not passed the House and this one has. It also has a 2-year sunset provision, as I understand, and there is no family unification provision. Also, it doesn't eliminate the diversity lottery visa which allows people to get green cards without regard to the qualifications that they bring to this country to create jobs and start new businesses. I know we have the distinguished Senator from North Dakota here.
