“the debate we are hearing today reminds me of the demagoguing we heard back when the new majority took over in January of 1995. We tried to do some things that were right for the country, and we were demagogued as those who were trying to end the school lunch program, as those who were trying to eliminate Medicare, and as those who were trying to hurt the environment. We all knew that was not true, but yet the demagoguing continued. The demagoguing continues today by those who are opposed to this bill, who say that it is going to somehow create a State, a new State, instantly. That is false. That is demagoguing. There is also demagoguing about how this bill might be promoting bilingualism. That is not true at all, but nonetheless the arguments continue. They say this is anti-Commonwealth. That is also not true. The demagogues know it but they continue to make these arguments, in spite of the truth and substance of what we are trying to accomplish here today.”
