I don't see anything but good news in that, for terms of the West and certainly in terms of America.

What's at stake here is democracy and freedom.

We stand united, as do other Western partners, in our commitment to help Soviet reform.

We can't dictate the ending of what is happening in the Soviet Union, but neither are we mere spectators.
