“there are other solutions to the problem, and that is why I appreciate the opportunity to join with my colleague tonight in talking about some of these other solutions. I think it is awfully important at this stage, and my colleague probably ought to do this and I am going to have to leave in a moment, but about every 10 or 15 minutes when we start talking about Social Security, we are not talking about those who are on it today. We are not talking about those about to be on it, i.e., 55 years of age and older. They are safe. We are talking about our children and grandchildren. That needs to be over and over emphasized, and we have got a plan which tonight I will not go into all of it. The gentleman is going to talk about his, and I happen to agree with most of what he is doing, particularly with addressing the problem. It has been so difficult, so seemingly impossible, for this body to address it. The Blue Dogs, a moment ago, what we said last year is, before we get into any new budget, any new tax cuts, any new anything, the first thing we should have done was sit down and fix Social Security.”
