“The transportation bill that we have been considering for the last 2 weeks is one of the most important pieces of legislation that we will consider in this second session. It is important not only for maintaining and improving our transportation infrastructure system-- something that we talked a lot about over the last 2 weeks--but it is also important, as has been discussed, for creating jobs. Conservative estimates are that this legislation would create as many as 1.6 million jobs over the life of the bill, and some analysts now believe it can create as many as 2 million new jobs.
