Madam President, this Friday is going to mark the beginning of the 51st annual March for Life, and we have got thousands of Americans and, indeed, hundreds of Tennesseans who are coming to our Nation's Capital to celebrate life, to talk about how to defend life, and to uphold the sanctity of life. This is the second March for Life since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. We know, with the Dobbs decision, it really sent the authority back to the States and to the people, and that is where it does belong. Across the Nation, we have seen States step up and take responsibility for the rules and regulations around abortion practices. Now, one of these areas they have looked at is informed consent laws. This would require abortion providers to inform expectant mothers of all the medical risks to the mother and to the child because of this abortion procedure. What we know is that informed consent is a very important part of medical ethics. According to the AMA's medical ethics code, this is what it says: Patients have the right to receive information and ask questions about treatments so that they can make well- considered decisions about care. But not all States have informed consent laws, and there are abortion providers who withhold this information, which prevents these expectant mothers from understanding all of the risks that they face. A nationwide safeguard regarding informed consent is something that is long overdue.…
