“I rise today in support and admiration of my hometown team, the Carolina Hurricanes, who, after just 5 years in North Carolina, made it to the Stanley Cup finals this year. The Hurricanes represented North Carolina well. They fought hard, they played fair, and they never gave up. Their strength and determination showed the true mettle that champions are made of. Even though our 'Canes could not bring the cup home this year, they took the city of Raleigh, the area and really the whole State on a very exciting ride. The entire region has been swept up in the fervor of the quest for the cup and the sport of hockey. Raleigh, North Carolina, long known for basketball, is now most definitely a hockey town. Just last week, over 6,000 people turned out to say 'thank you' to the team and welcome them back home. The 'Canes' rise to the top of the hockey elite has also given the world a glimpse of what those of us from North Carolina have known for a long time. Raleigh is one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the world, and the whole Triangle region is a wealth of innovative technology, business and industry. I am proud to represent North Carolina and proud of the Carolina Hurricanes.”
