I am very pleased today that H.R. 5 is moving. I have been in Congress for several years now, and this is a piece of legislation that I have felt like should have been passed many years ago. And I know senior citizens that have quit work simply because the penalty was too high. Now they will be able, after this legislation passes the House and Senate and signed by the President, and I expect it all to happen this year and very soon now, where senior citizens will have an opportunity to make some decisions and whereby they can have some structure in their lives, where they can have some peace of mind, knowing that if they want to continue to work, and many of them want to do that, they will be able to accomplish those goals and objectives for themselves and their families. It is estimated that, under current law, about 4 percent of Social Security recipients will exceed the $17,000 earnings limit and will have the benefits reduced by an average of $8,154. That does not have to happen now with this legislation.
