Indeed, we each have an obligation to utilize our own voice and to make our own judgments with regard to the best course of action to take in any debate and in any discussion. The problems in this country are significant. There is not one of us in this body who wishes to minimize them. There is not one of us in this body who is not concerned about these problems. Each of us might take, advocate, or firmly believe in a different course of action, but it is precisely because of the diversity of opinion in this Nation that this Nation is great. It is precisely because of the viewpoint and diversity we have in this body that this body has been called the world's greatest deliberative legislative body. We need to make sure that that remains. In order for that to be the case, it is appropriate that Members of the Senate who have a good-faith, genuine disagreement with an issue as to which a unanimous consent has been made come forward and they object. On that basis, I object. I will continue to object as long as it remains necessary to ensure that the debate we have surrounding the debt limit occurs under the regular order of the Senate.
