First let me just say, I am shocked and appalled at the comment yesterday by the Speaker when he said ``so be it'' in response to the likely job losses that will occur as a result of this continuing resolution. An independent analysis by the nonpartisan Economic Policy Institute indicates that this bill will result in the direct loss, mind you, of 800,000 private and public sector jobs. Instead of doing everything we can do to halt the loss of jobs and put people back to work, this bill takes the wrong approach, putting our economy and our country back on the path to recession. For every job opening in this country, we have 4.7 unemployed people who are looking for work. Why would we want to add to their numbers? ``So be it'' cannot and should not be our response to this economic crisis, not with a 9 percent unemployment rate and over 15 percent in communities of color, and record layoffs and furloughs at the State level, and especially not when Republicans have the temerity to demand tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires paid for through borrowed money. This is just wrong, and it's immoral. As a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, I am in strong opposition to these cruel cuts. Budgets are moral documents, and they are a reflection of who we are and what we value.…
