So giving a tax cut like we just did has a racially disparate impact because of the huge tax cut we gave from which people of color did not benefit when you look at who got that huge part of the tax cut.

Carrying out a lawfully imposed sentence is among the State’s most serious responsibilities, and the people of Tennessee expect it to be done in a manner that is not only legal and constitutional, but is effective.
We have really seen the airport board and commissioners just step right into one decision to the next to make sure that this happened.
It’s a tragedy, and it’s deeply disturbing that that has happened in this state. The people deserve better than that.
I will seek an independent investigation and pause all executions for the rest of 2026.
