“As I read this resolution, I really did think I was reading the fundamental arguments for the establishment of a national affordable housing trust fund which has been sponsored by over 200 members of this body. So I would like to read just a couple of whereas clauses which explain why I think this resolution sounds like the provisions of the National Housing Trust Fund. Whereas establishing a housing infrastructure strengthens neighborhoods and local economies and nurtures the families who reside in them; whereas homeownership is a cornerstone of the national economy because it spurs the production and sale of goods and services, generates new jobs, encourages savings and investment, promotes economic and civic responsibility and enhances the financial security of all people in the United States. However, this resolution is just another vehicle for Republicans to talk about their nonexistent housing agenda. This Congress must allow us to debate and vote on significant housing legislation.”
