Every government and the people of all countries should feel it their highest happiness to enjoy an opportunity of thus manifesting their love of each other and their interest in the general principles which apply to them all as members of the common family of man.
I transmit to the Senate a report of the Secretary of the Navy, complying with their resolution of the 24th of May, 1836.
I herewith transmit to the House the copy of a letter addressed to me by the governor of the State of Maine on the 30th of June last, communicating sundry resolutions of the legislature of that State and claiming the reimbursement of certain moneys paid to John and Phineas R. Hatford for losses and expenses incurred by them under circumstances explained in the accompanying papers.
I herewith transmit the report ** of the Secretary of the Navy, which affords all the information required by said resolution.
