Let me say as strongly as I can, this amendment belongs on this bill. This is exactly what I think we ought to be doing, and I think on a bipartisan basis there is strong support for what Senator Levin is proposing. I want to speak briefly this afternoon, in my leader time, on the amendment itself. I think it is important, as my colleagues have been noting, that the Levin amendment contains precisely the right solution to the difficult problems of determining the proper accounting treatment for stock options. It reserves that judgment for the appropriate body, the Financial Accounting Standards Board.
