“Madam Speaker, this week I was thrilled to participate in the fifth annual Foster Youth Shadow Day. It was truly an honor to host Randy Colon, a young man from my home State of Rhode Island, as my shadow. He is a bright young man full of potential despite the many challenges he has faced. Randy is now studying to become a veterinarian while working full time. Unfortunately, success stories like his are all too rare, and we need to make sure that every child has the opportunity to reach his or her full potential. This week I introduced the All Kids Matter Act, which directs funds to help children and families avoid the trauma of foster care placements in the first place and promotes family unity and stability.
