The recent terrorist attacks in Paris are a stark reminder that we cannot risk the safety of our country. I am asking Pennsylvania Governor Wolf to suspend the Commonwealth's participation in the President's Syrian refugee resettlement initiative. The administration has not provided any details of a thorough screening plan to thwart ISIS infiltration. Meanwhile, the Director of National Intelligence, the Director of the FBI, and the Secretary of Homeland Security have told Congress they cannot properly screen refugees coming from Syria and the surrounding regions for national security threats. We have an obligation to protect Americans from those who seek to take advantage of our generosity at the expense of innocent lives. The President and Governor are pushing to make America the home for tens of thousands of refugees. We have 50,000 homeless veterans within the USA and 1,500 in Pennsylvania. If we want to welcome someone home, let's start instead with our homeless veterans. ____________________
