“I just want to thank the majority leader, again, for his willingness to cooperate with both Senator Specter and me in our request that Judge Massiah-Jackson's nomination not be voted on here in the next few days but that the process be able to be worked out and worked through, a hearing to be held. I know Senator Specter, who cannot be here right now, fully supports this process that we now have begun to get her a hearing in the Judiciary Committee. And then I hope very promptly to bring her back to the floor of the U.S. Senate for a vote. I would not like to see this nomination hang out for a long period of time after the hearing. I don't think that would be fair, again, to her or to the process, or to the President who I know, in having conversations with the White House, they would like to see this matter be dealt with in an expeditious fashion after the hearing takes place. A hearing will not be able to take place until the week after next because we are not in session next week. So I am hopeful we can bring this judge up for a final vote here in the U.S. Senate within a 3-week period of time, maybe a 4-week period of time. I think that would be appropriate for her and I think appropriate for the Senate at some point to pass judgment on this nominee.”
