I might agree with him looking forward because we will have set a precedent tonight. We will have set a precedent in this session of Congress that will go to haunt both sides forever. If we maintain it, it will. I guarantee it. What we are doing here is playing with real bullets. I tell you there are folks on our side of the aisle who are loving what you are doing. They are loving what you are doing, man. They just think, go, baby, go. Do this because we can't wait to get our arms around the next Democratic President who wants to stack the court with a bunch of people who believe God does not belong in the Pledge of Allegiance. We can't wait--who, by the way, got confirmed by the Clinton administration and by this Senate. We can't wait to get our arms around people who find in this Constitution things that are not in it, who believe it is their job to be the super Senator, the super legislator, the super President. We can't wait to block those nominees because, do you know what. You did it first. You did it first. You can say, oh, no, we didn't do it first. You did it first. You crossed the line.

I think the President just picked the wrong one. So I don't think that was a political wind shift. I just think he picked the wrong bill to veto.

I think a lot of people sort of baked it into the cake that the President is -- you know has some dealings that are, let's just say, not ordinary and that those are things that they've sort of already figured out.
