It is not rational. It is not in the interest of anybody to do this, but yet we perpetuate this, even in light of the fact that we have millions of Americans who are uninsured. Clearly, many of those would be better able to afford the insurance if they could deduct it; just as corporations already do. I think what the chairman is suggesting is merely that individuals get the same kind of treatment that corporations already get.
