On the recordMay 23, 2002
I just felt the need to respond to the level of really demagoguery and intellectual bankruptcy that I have been hearing from my good friends and colleagues on the other side of the aisle this morning and last night. I just feel the need to review some facts that every one of the Members knows have been conveniently left out of this discussion. I will start with one, which is a simple fact that everyone knows, that if we had not passed any tax cut at all last year, we would still be running a deficit. They know that. They know for a fact that the cost of the war, the cost of rebuilding New York, the cost of increasing homeland security, as well as the cost of spending in other areas, is vastly greater than the revenue that was lost to the Treasury as a result of last year's tax cuts. Members know that.
