“as the cochair of the Task Force on Fatherhood Promotion, I rise today to discuss the importance of a faithful father. With Father's Day this Sunday, it is vital that we pause to thank the men across this country who have given time to their children, love them, discipline them and show their commitment to keeping a family together. When more than 50 percent of all adults agree that fathers today spend less time with their children than their own fathers did with them, this should cause us to pause. We must consider the reality that only if we spend time with our kids now will they desire time with us later. As Father's Day comes and goes again, we should resolve that the most important relationship we will ever cultivate will not be here in the halls of Congress, or over dinner downtown, or at a campaign fund-raiser, but will be the ones that develop in our own homes. To all those fathers who are working to be good dads: Keep up the valuable work that you are doing. Society and, most importantly, your own kids will say, ``Thank you.''”
