“Mr. President, I want to use this occasion to give a statement of appreciation to the Reverend Mark Dever, who has opened the Senate today with prayer and will do so each day this week, as our Chaplain Halverson is on a week's vacation. Mr. President, Reverend Dever is one of the younger breed of ministers that has blessed our spiritual world in providing not only leadership in the pulpit, but he also has an extraordinary educational background, a Ph.D. from Cambridge, and has recently come to the Capitol Hill Baptist Church, which is the church of my membership, to take over as pastor. It is an old church here in the city and one which has, like many cities, found an older population and is in the process of rebuilding that church with younger people. He has already attracted the interest of many people because of his extraordinary, expository preaching. So I am happy and proud to be able to ask him, on behalf of the majority leader, to fill this role here in the Senate each day for this coming week.”
