“Mr. Chairman, since being elected to Congress, I have been focusing attention on the issue of creating livable communities where families are safe, healthy, and economically secure. The quality and quantity of our water supply is going to be the primary shaper of our communities in the next century. This is one of the reasons why I am here today, pleased to join in rising in support for the fine work that the committee has done, and thanking the ranking member, the gentleman from Minnesota (Mr. Oberstar), the gentleman from Pennsylvania (Mr. Shuster), the gentleman from Maryland (Mr. Gilchrest), and others in focusing attention and making sure that we are able to continue the great work that has been done in the Chesapeake Bay area.”
