the objective of child tax credits should be to help families with children who are in need of assistance and to improve tax fairness. This legislation provides little to no help for a single mother making minimum wage, while increasing the income ceiling allowing parents that earn as much as $300,000 per year to receive tax credits. Low-income working mothers and fathers pay a disproportionately high cost for providing care to their children so that they can earn a wage outside of the home and stay off of welfare assistance. These are the families most in need of a child tax credit, yet, they are the families that are short-changed and left behind by the Republican tax bill. The money to provide these tax credits for families making well over $100,000 per year is taken from the thin wallets of families making up to $10,000 per year, who receive no benefit from this legislation, and from borrowed funds that will further increase our record deficit. The inequities of this legislation are unconscionable.
