Dear Majority Leader Reid and Minority Leader McConnell: The National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) opposes the nomination of Judge Benita Pearson to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. After reviewing answers she gave to the Senate Judiciary Committee earlier this year, we believe that Judge Pearson's connections to the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) would make it hard for her to be an impartial judge in cases regarding actions by animal activists. ALDF is an activist organization involved in numerous federal lawsuits and advocates giving animals the same legal rights as humans. NCBA expects the Senate to confirm judges who can hear cases and make decisions based on facts and law, rather than judges with strong biases that could lead to legislating from the bench.…
