one point--and many points have been made on both sides--one point that has not been made is that every State has a Governor and the Governors have the final ability to commute a sentence. So if, in fact, one is arguing that at some point there is clearly an innocent person, the Governor can always commute the sentence. I would also submit that in many instances these folks that are dragging out this death penalty process kill other inmates, kill guards, and ultimately end up on the streets, sometimes, and kill innocent people.
