After earning his pilot's wings in 1946, Admiral Davis spent the next 12 years in naval fighter squadrons. During the Korean War, Admiral Davis flew 51 combat missions. Finally, while serving in the Vietnam War, he was assigned to be commanding officer of the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk in the Indian Ocean. Admiral Davis' career culminated with his tour as commander of the Pacific Fleet from May of 1978 to July of 1981.
