Well, look in an election where every single battleground state is virtually tied to the last voter, every single one, you, my party cant afford to leave a single vote on that razors edge. So we've got to go after every single voter.

Both of these races will test this proposition, do Democratic voters want purity and ideology on the left? Or do they want pragmatism and winnability near the center?

If you don't pass both of these bills, the midterm is over, you're back in the minority.
