Mr. Chairman, the crimes of rape and incest are not about abortion, they are about violence and brutality. The language in this continuing resolution is cruel and it is senseless punishment for thousands of women who are victims of rape and incest. I only wish that this body would spend as much time working to prevent sexual assault, domestic violence, and tougher criminal prosecution of rapists as they do on the issue of choice. We should consider ways in which we can heal young girls and women who fall victim to these horrifying acts with the same ferociousness and vigilance as this body attacks a woman's right to choose.
