I see the Walker amendment as providing a common sense approach to some badly needed funds in some areas of great concern. First and foremost, as the representative of the Sixth District of Arizona, I am acutely aware of the solemn and oft-regarded sacred nature of our treaty and trust obligation with native Americans. I believe this amendment works to address those problems by raising the forward-funded tribal education by $27.5 million. Also, in the Grand Canyon State of Arizona, where some of nature's greatest treasures exist, I am mindful of the need to deal with the real wear and tear on some of our national parks.
