What is wrong is that in the real world where Americans work every day, our laws are their only protection from unscrupulous employers who often demand longer hours and try to avoid paying overtime. In the real world, thousands of employers skirt the overtime rules on the books every day, denying workers $19 billion a year in overtime wages. We simply cannot afford to weaken workers' protections. Here is how the bill works. An employer does not like an employee; no comp time. An employer does not want to give an employee time off; cash-out the comp time. An employer feels employees are exercising their option too frequently; revoke the comp time.
