Mr. Chairman, today I wish to express my support for the New York Botanical Garden. The New York Botanical Garden has been located in my district. It is currently located in the district of the gentleman from New York (Mr. Serrano) which borders mine. Mr. Chairman, those who have been to New York know that the Botanical Garden is considered by many to be the jewel of the Bronx as well as an institution renowned for its support and development of advanced research and graduate studies in plant biology. I, along with 17 of my colleagues from New York, have urgently requested that $5 million be appropriated for construction of a new plant studies research laboratory at the New York Botanical Garden. The Botanical Garden is currently recognized as a premier institution in botanical research in the United States. The facility which houses advanced botanical studies laboratories, however, has become obsolete. A new facility is desperately needed to continue to attract top scientists and researchers from around the world.
