I am voting in favor of this legislation not because I think it is perfect, but because I strongly believe it is in the best interests of my constituents--that it will make a positive difference in the lives of families, businesses, and hospitals in central and western New York. First, I'm voting for this because we need to do something to control rising health care costs that keep taking a bigger and bigger bite out of the household budgets of upstate New York. Skyrocketing health care costs aren't just crippling the U.S. economy--they're emptying our pocketbooks. My entire life is filled with stories about how people-- regular middle-class people--can't afford the health care they need. How insurance companies have denied needed care.
