The right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy.

I, therefore, urge this Committee to facilitate participation by encouraging States to adopt systems that automatically update voters' registration information.

Congress has a duty to take strong action to fulfill the promise of the Reconstruction Amendments, that all Americans should be free to participate in our democracy on equal terms, free from racial discrimination.

Election Day registration can be a valuable safety net in making sure that any voters who are purged erroneously do end up getting to participate on Election Day.
