We call for the U.S. Congress and also the international community to monitor this regime--that is, the Xi Jinping regime--because we in Hong Kong are protecting these values that we all believe in.

Well, it certainly does seem like a sustained effort, along with the voter suppression laws that we`re seeing pop up around the country, to undermine faith in our democracy, to undermine electoral integrity.

Congress has a duty to take strong action to fulfill the promise of the Reconstruction Amendments, that all Americans should be free to participate in our democracy on equal terms, free from racial discrimination.

That suggestion is fundamentally incompatible with the basic promise of equal justice under the law.
