On the recordDecember 1, 2010
I thank you, Mr. President. The beginning of this letter, signed by 42 of our Republican colleagues, says: The Nation's unemployment level, stuck near 10 percent, is unacceptable to Americans. I just want to clarify what my colleague is saying. We will all be talking about this. It is more important to the people on the other side of the aisle to get tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires than move forward on unemployment insurance. We are going to ask unanimous consent on that proposal and on other proposals which we will hear from. But is my colleague basically saying, despite the fact that our colleagues admit unemployment is high--many are out of work--their solution to unemployment and people looking for jobs is to give tax breaks to people who are making millions and billions of dollars and people who did very well over the last decade--the only group? Is that basically it?
