I strongly oppose funding for the proposed Yucca Mountain Waste Repository. There is no single greater threat to the health and safety of Southern Nevada residents than the Bush administration's plan to dump high-level nuclear waste in the Silver State. The Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board, not a friend of the State of Nevada, has said that there is no question that canisters stored in Yucca Mountain will corrode, allowing deadly nuclear waste to escape and contaminate water supplies. Listen to the language of the Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board. They said the canisters will leak and deposit thousands of tons of radioactivity into the groundwater at Yucca Mountain. Decades of scientific study have failed to answer even the most fundamental questions about Yucca Mountain's ability to withstand earthquakes, volcanic activity, and now perhaps more immediate coordinated terrorist assault.
