“Good Morning. My name is Mark Hall. For the past 18 years I have worked as a U.S. border patrol agent, 15 of them based in Detroit, Michigan. I am also President of AFGE Local 2499. I have dedicated my life to defending the national security of this country and do not understand how my role as union leader is incompatible with my oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the U.S. I believe that the two hats I wear as I patrol the Northern Border of the U.S. are entirely consistent. In fact, if not for the fact that I am a union member, I might not be a border patrol agent today. In the months after the terrorists attacked the World Trade Center and Pentagon on September 11 of last year, I became increasingly concerned about the vulnerability of our northern border and our agency's inadequate response to that threat.”
