“Will the Senator respond to one more question? The minority all afternoon has said they want to vote on the package that came from the House. They said it can get more than 50 votes. Is the Senator from Minnesota aware that just in recent days we, over here, many times have gotten more than 50 votes? On the farm bill, 53 to 45, 54 to 43, 54 to 43; unemployment insurance, we got 56 votes on that; on the Social Security lockbox, we got 53; on the Durbin unemployment insurance amendment, we got 56 or 57 votes; on the Baucus farm amendment, 57 votes. The Senator from Minnesota and I have been in the Senate a number of years. It is very frustrating to recognize you need 60 votes to pass things here, but that is how much it takes, doesn't it, generally speaking?”
