“It would be untoward on the Senate floor to walk over and hug the Republican leader, but that is what I feel like doing. I agree with him 100 percent. I think we should try to get a number of amendments locked in, whether it is 5 or 50, whatever it is. I think we should get it done and start moving on this bill. I have been, as my friend from Kentucky knows, in a minority position more than I would like to admit here in the Senate as the minority Democratic leader. I understand he has certain things to do within his caucus. Whatever was needed to be proven has been proven. Let's move forward on this bill as the Republican leader has outlined. We greet his suggestion with open arms.”
