I have sat silently listening to the colloquy between the two leaders on an issue of importance to me, and that is the nuclear waste issue. There are many of us--and I have spoken at great length with the majority leader--who believe the law that was passed stands Senate precedent on its head and there will be a concerted effort by a number of Republicans and a significant number of Democrats, with the majority leader, saying it sets such a bad precedent that the motion to proceed should not, of course, go forward. While the two leaders are present, I wanted to make sure everyone understood this is not a slam dunk, that the motion to proceed or whatever we want to call this unique aspect of law that passed is certainly not assured of going forward. Whenever a Republican decides to bring it up, there will be a vote on this so-called motion to proceed, and I am hopeful and cautiously optimistic that it will not prevail.
