I have really tried to be fair. I have not tried to take advantage of anyone. I have tried to be as candid with people who support the bill as those who oppose the bill, not trying to take advantage of them. The process here in the Senate wasn't invented yesterday; it has been going on for 220 years. I am working my way through the rules, making sure we follow every jot and tittle in these complicated rules, but they are not that complicated. We simply want to work on an issue that is important to the American people--immigration. I acknowledge, as has my friend, that the system of immigration in our country is broken. We need to try to fix it, and this is our way of trying to fix it. Perfect? No. Good? Yes. The American people deserve our attention to this problem we have in our country. We have people of good will, Democrats and Republicans, who are trying to do this.
