On the recordJuly 11, 2001
I want the record to reflect what a good job Slade Gorton did on this bill during the time he was the chairman of this subcommittee. Slade is not in the Senate anymore. The record should be spread with the fact that he did an outstanding job when he was chairman of the subcommittee. He was always willing to listen to us. He held meetings and was very inclusive. I don't want to dwell on it other than to say that I have not forgotten Slade Gorton and the good work he did on this bill. I am confident that his successor, the Senator from Montana, will do just as well. I know as a Senator I learned a lot from Senator Gorton from the way he handled things. I hope we will all remember Slade Gorton for his dedication to the Senate and the good work he did.
