The Republican Party that we now have is not the Republican Party of John Chafee, Mark Hatfield, those people who were really stalwarts in moving the country forward.
The filibuster is nondemocratic. It has been used to the disarray of the Congress. And, certainly, it hasn’t been anything that has helped -- been helpful to the American people. It’s got to go.
The Senate is a place to kill things. It isn’t a place that you look to get things done.
Get rid of the filibuster. It’s nothing. As Barack Obama said at John Lewis’ funeral, it’s part of the leftovers from the days of slave owners. You have got to get rid of it. It’s very bad.
