“I commend my friend, the junior Senator from Oklahoma, Mr. Inhofe, for his steadfastness in attempting to move this most important bill that the Chair just reported. He has worked hard on this for months. This week he has worked hard on it. This has not been an easy week. Again, for every billion dollars spent on infrastructure development--for example, highway or transit--we create 47,000 jobs. But the spinoff for this $1 billion is $6.2 billion in economic activity. Even by conservative estimates, funding our Nation's infrastructure program at the $311 billion Bond-Reid level will create hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of jobs.”
